Forest School
Forest school is an opportunity for children to experience nature and the outdoors on a regular basis, all year round. They will see the changes that the seasons bring, learn about their local environment – the trees, flowers and wildlife that make it their home – and learn to respect the world around them.
They will be able to play with mud, sticks, jump in puddles, climb trees and develop skills and confidence. Sometimes they will get wet, sometimes they will get muddy, sometimes they may get cold but they will also very definitely have fun, be free to explore and use their imagination.
Forest School sessions run at St. Peter’s for all year groups, as part of the school curriculum. Sessions run throughout the Autumn, Spring and Summer terms. Each year group has 5 sessions in our Forest School (FS\0 area, run over 2 days. Each class is split into either a morning or afternoon group and spends just over 2 hours tackling a range of activities (including time around the fire drinking hot chocolate and eating the odd biscuit or two!) in our FS area.

We go out whatever the weather, and with this in mind, we have included a simple kit list which we hope will cover all eventualities. Rest assured, we don’t go out if it’s too windy or if there is any thunder about, but the idea is that the children experience the natural world, come rain or shine. Hopefully the weather will be kind to us, but it’s always best to be well prepared – as the saying goes, ‘there’s no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing’! mind, we have included a simple kit list which we hope will cover all eventualities.
